DIY Vegan Instant Hot Chocolate

Easy vegan instand hot chocolate. Three minutes, two ingredients and no stove or pots required. All you need is a little technique!

  • 1 tablespoon fair-trade, sustainably produced cocoa powder
  • 1-2 tablespoons boiling water
  • 3/4 cup plant-based milk preferably a "barista blend"


  • Boil a small bit of water in a kettle, less than you’d use for a single cup of tea. You’ll only need a splash.
  • Scoop about 1 tbsp cocoa into your favourite mug.
  • Slowly pour about 1 tbsp boiling water into the cocoa. Mix carefully with a spoon, smooshing any clumps into the sides of the mug til you have a smooth, rich chocolate mixture. If it’s pasty, add a bit more water, but only a little.
  • Slowly stir in any plant-based milk til the mug is full, preferably a “barista blend.”
  • Microwave your mug for about a minute, giving it a stir to be sure it’s warm through.
  • Add a spoonful of maple syrup or vanilla sugar, maybe a pinch of salt or cinnamon. Or be wild and go for all of the above! Enjoy!
